DELAWARE IS GOING PURPLE as we seek to unite and mobilize our community to stand up to prevent substance use disorder, end the stigma of addiction and bring education and awareness around the opioid crisis! It takes all of us committed to change our communities’ course.
Families, Neighborhoods, Co-workers, Companies, Hospitals, and Schools have been impacted by this epidemic. There is hardly a person in our cities or towns who has not, in one way or another, witnessed the devastation of the opioid crisis. We recognize there is no one simple solution to this problem. Singularly, we won’t be able to stem the tide; but, together, unified, we can begin to take back our community, provide hope and deliver support.
In the fall of 2018, The Sussex County Health Coalition, in partnership with Highmark and DSAMH embarked upon a robust Opioid Awareness and Prevention Campaign called “Sussex Goes Purple.” This initiative went viral and encompassed several towns and two counties engaging over 100 organizations and 100% of our legislatures as champions.
This year you can join all three counties, the entire state along with myself and our Honorary Chair Lt. Governor Bethany-Hall Long in taking back our communities. The formal campaign begins in many of our towns in mid-September and runs through October. The focal event will be held at Delaware State University on October 9th, 2019 with an inspirational presentation from Chris Herren, former NBA player and addict in recovery. Mr. Herren a national spokesperson featured on national television was the inspiration behind the grass roots initiatives we call the “Purple Movement Concept”. Chris Herren started The Project Purple to break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and encourage positive decision making to navigate life’s challenges for school-age youth. The Project Purple was the beginning, but in Maryland and now Delaware our communities have made it so much more.
We invite you to join the movement as Platinum Sponsor for the Statewide Campaign to Go Purple. As a Platinum Delaware Goes Purple Sponsor for $10,000 you will be included and receive the following:
- Logo on all printed material
- Logo on website and Facebook
- Organization mentioned on all major media to include (Radio/Print/TV)
- Invitation to a VIP meet and greet for Chris Herren for two designees
- 6 Reserved Seats at the Chris Herren Event

Your Purple Sponsorship supports the cost for speakers, information dissemination for treatment access, school-based prevention education, public service announcements, mini grants for community awareness events, Narcan training and much more!
To make an impact, and help turn the tide of this epidemic, it is going to require all of us to work together to be a part of the solution. Below are additional ways you and your organization can expand your involvement:
- Sponsor a town to Go Purple!
- Become an advocate and speaker
- Host a purple employee day!
- Place information on your website and link to ours!
- Post your internal events or activities to Facebook!
- Circulate Information
- Promote “Help Is Here” Information
- Sponsor a school to Go Purple!

- Reach out to our team for more ideas. We can help!
The good news is, there is HOPE. We can be the change, but it must begin with each of us as a committed community working together. Won’t you join the movement? We need you; our communities are counting on your support!
